At the heart of AVE's activity is waste co-processing — an environmentally responsible, technically safe and economically advantageous solution for the definitive recovery of different types of waste.

In Portugal, this practice is regulated by several legal instruments, with emphasis on Decree-Law No. 85/2005, which establishes the principles and requirements applicable to its use.

Co-processing consists of using previously prepared and validated waste such as:

• Alternative fuels in cement industry kilns;
• Secondary raw materials in the manufacture of clinker.
